When Nadine & I got married we decided to let iTunes be our DJ. This guaranteed no “Chicken Dance”, YMCA, or other lame wedding songs would be played at our reception. We just picked songs from our library and queued them up in a playlist. Here is that playlist.

Phase 1, closet & pantry

My home was built in the 1920s and about 2 months ago I embarked upon some major home reconstruction to adjust the way the house is lived in and give us some extra storage space along the way. This construction involves building new walls, closing up current doorways, building a closet/pantry, dealing with a load bearing wall and building some shelving.

Phase 1, is to transform what was the formal dining room into our new bedroom by building a large closet and closing the doorway up into the kitchen and the other opening into the front room. This will make use of the hallway door to the bedroom.

My Dad & Mom have been a great help on this project. I am very grateful to have their help and guidance along the way!

This was our starting canvas, the formal dining room. (Who uses one of those anymore?) This room had a doorway into the kitchen.

We got the shelving up and configured in a way that we liked before building as to make sure the closet would fit everything properly.

Next step, get the framing for the closet and pantry up.

My Dad helping out with the framing construction and drywall is starting to go up!

Drywall up and painted just a bit more patching before it’s done.

Here is a look at the pantry from the kitchen. This is going to give us so much more space.

We got some fresh paint up on the walls with help from our friends/neighbors Jesse & Jamez.

Getting to the finishing touches and putting crown moulding up around the room.

Closet doors installed and working! We will be reclaiming baseboard from other construction to use along the new wall.

Starting on Phase 2, knocking out the wall between the two front rooms of the house to make one great room and some nice shelving in the wall.

I’m sure some of you know who COOP, AKA Chris Cooper is. He’s done roughly 100 posters, including rock posters for Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Sex Pistols and many others, and album cover art for everyone from the Monomen to the Ramones. He recently posted some of his prints and posters to his Flickr stream where I took some of them and made some COOP inspired desktop and mobile wallpapers.

The atmosphere was perfect; A nice cool late summer evening, a small aging venue, minimal lighting and a packed crowd rising and falling with the music.

I have listened to Explosions in the Sky a few times but do not own any of their records or never really got into their music. I knew they were an esoteric band that played long format songs full of ambience, noise and raw rock power but I had no idea of the pleasant surprise I was in for. I had the chance to see them live, took the opportunity and WOW, I was blown away! What a great band to see live! They are now up near the top of my ‘must see them live’ list along with Sonic Youth and The Arcade Fire as far an having a great stage presence and creating a performance that feels so organic and alive, it gives me chills.

I love the fact that their music is all instrumental leaving the feeling and interpretation completely up to the listener. In today’s pop song and short attention span world it’s wonderful to see that a band like this can sell out a show in Louisville, KY. If you have a chance to get out and see Explosions in the Sky, please do, you will not regret it! After their set there was no encore! I thought that was amazing. Everybody plays an encore these days, it’s expected, but at the end of the set they waved goodbye and then came back out 5 minutes later to inform us, yes they were really done and said something to the effect of they were drained from the performance and hope we enjoyed it, but that’s it. respect.

Saturday night I played at the Mean Streak party at Lisa’s Oak Street Lounge. The air conditioning broke the week prior so it was very musty and stinking like cat piss throughout the bar. Despite the bummer venue, the gig was quite well and I performed along with Deathface, Sleepy-T, and the OK Deejays.

The soundsystem was nice! Thanks Lou and Ryan, you do a great job! I dropped some Terminal Dusk tracks, some exclusive Fault material and some other tasty gems… check out the set list…
