The atmosphere was perfect; A nice cool late summer evening, a small aging venue, minimal lighting and a packed crowd rising and falling with the music.

I have listened to Explosions in the Sky a few times but do not own any of their records or never really got into their music. I knew they were an esoteric band that played long format songs full of ambience, noise and raw rock power but I had no idea of the pleasant surprise I was in for. I had the chance to see them live, took the opportunity and WOW, I was blown away! What a great band to see live! They are now up near the top of my ‘must see them live’ list along with Sonic Youth and The Arcade Fire as far an having a great stage presence and creating a performance that feels so organic and alive, it gives me chills.

I love the fact that their music is all instrumental leaving the feeling and interpretation completely up to the listener. In today’s pop song and short attention span world it’s wonderful to see that a band like this can sell out a show in Louisville, KY. If you have a chance to get out and see Explosions in the Sky, please do, you will not regret it! After their set there was no encore! I thought that was amazing. Everybody plays an encore these days, it’s expected, but at the end of the set they waved goodbye and then came back out 5 minutes later to inform us, yes they were really done and said something to the effect of they were drained from the performance and hope we enjoyed it, but that’s it. respect.

Mean Streak on 8/21/2010

Saturday night I played at the Mean Streak party at Lisa’s Oak Street Lounge. The air conditioning broke the week prior so it was very musty and stinking like cat piss throughout the bar. Despite the bummer venue, the gig was quite well and I performed along with Deathface, Sleepy-T, and the OK Deejays.

The soundsystem was nice! Thanks Lou and Ryan, you do a great job! I dropped some Terminal Dusk tracks, some exclusive Fault material and some other tasty gems… check out the set list…

Nadine Returns to Pastry

Nadine recently, took a part-time baking job at Michele’s On Goss where she will be the Pastry Chef! She missed being in a kitchen professionally and jumped at the opportunity to make some extra cash and do something that she loves.

Stop by the restaurant some time for dessert or check out the Sunday brunch buffet for some of her sweet treats! During her time at the Michele’s I will be photographing her as well as her lovely desserts. Here are some photos from her first week!

2010 Forecastle VIP way overrated

This past Sunday I attended the Forecastle festival in Louisville, KY. This was my first experience attending Forecastle and was quite excited to see She & Him, Spoon and The Flaming Lips and in general check out the festival. What I encountered was a festival that did not give much thought at all to the VIP attendee and I felt I was completely misled and slighted.

I sent the VIP department of Forecastle an email explaining my frustration. Hopefully they take a look at other festivals and learn how to provide a quality experience for all attendees.

I am unfortunately writing you because my experience at Forecastle with a VIP Pass for Sunday was completely horrible. I felt scammed and ripped off.

On my way through the gate I was told that I could not bring in my camera as it had a detachable lens, once inside I saw many VIP and non-vip festival goers with cameras and lenses. This is part of the reason I got a VIP pass, to take good pictures up close.

In addition, no re-entry. Really? It’s an all day festival.
Your workers at the gate are there all day anyways, can’t they just check me again if I leave and want to re-enter later?

I visited the West VIP area, not sure if there were other VIP areas, I got no map when I entered the festival.

Luxurious, air-conditioning lounges… one lounge, not luxurious, barely air conditioned.
Amenities, and services, what were those exactly? They were not in the form of nice bathrooms, free water, discounted food or drinks.

Organic food sampling? where was that?
When I pay double the price for a ticket, I expect to get true VIP service.
You have failed miserably. You need to look around at other festivals and learn how to do treat those that pay for VIP access.

It’s been forever since I’ve had the time to work on music. I’ve been getting more into low sub bass and always seeking the eternal chest rattler! So her is a track that Im working on to grace Terminal Dusk or some other label once it’s completed, have a listen.
